How do I choose a gummy mold size?
Start with target cavity volume and formulation density. Confirm final weight through a production test because equal-volume gummies can weigh differently.
Does a higher cavity count always increase production?
No. Output also depends on depositing speed, cooling, demolding, labor, cleaning, and line handling.
Will any mold work with my depositor?
No. Verify the exact machine model, mold footprint, pitch, registration, clearances, frame or tray requirements, and handling method.
Are all silicone molds BPA free?
No universal claim should be made for every finished silicone mold. Silicone is a different polymer family from polycarbonate, the material commonly associated with BPA, but buyers should still request documentation for the exact finished mold and any additives.
Does “food grade” mean FDA approved?
No. “Food grade” is a broad marketing phrase, and FDA generally regulates food-contact substances and conditions of use rather than issuing a blanket approval for every finished mold. Ask which specific regulation, test standard, or supplier declaration applies to the exact material and intended use.
What is platinum-cured silicone?
It is silicone cured using a platinum-catalyzed addition-cure system. The cure system alone does not prove suitability for every food-contact use; the complete formulation, processing, post-curing where applicable, and documentation matter.
Should I buy stock or custom molds?
Use stock molds when an existing shape, size, layout, and equipment format work. Choose custom molds when branding, dosage, geometry, or machine fit requires a dedicated design.
How should molds be cleaned?
Follow the cleaning limits and chemical compatibility instructions for the exact mold material. Avoid assuming that every silicone or plastic mold tolerates the same temperatures, detergents, or sanitizers.
How do I estimate mold quantity?
Divide the target number of pieces by the cavities per mold and planned number of cycles, then round up. Add practical capacity for cooling, cleaning, handling, rejects, and downtime.
